PROP 73 LETS PARENTS HELP IN A TIME OF LOSS

Regarding voting on Proposition 73: Abortion is a woman's legal choice, but it is nonetheless a serious medical procedure. And compared with other medical procedures in the United States, it appears that abortion is the most unregulated. My child can't get her ears pierced without my written consent, yet she could get a serious and extremely invasive procedure called an abortion without my consent. She can be taken, by a stranger, to a medical facility that I have not approved of, see a doctor that I know nothing about and have either a medical abortion or the more invasive procedure, a surgical abortion.

SEXUAL TRICK OR TREAT
There is no age at which a parent stops being a parent to that child and no age at which a child stops being the child of the parent. Roles change over the years, but the biological-parental link isn't broken, regardless of the law. Proposition 73 is an amendment to California's Constitution that says the parents/legal guardians of a minor, unemancipated child must be notified of the intended abortion. ACTOR, WRITER, BEN STEIN JOINS CA PARENTS' RIGHTS COALITION!
Sacramento, CA --
The California Parents' Rights Coalition today confirmed author, syndicated columnist, political insider, law professor, actor and game show host Ben Stein as campaign co-chair and spokesperson for the Yes on Proposition 73 campaign. "Ben is a great addition to the coalition. As a big supporter of Proposition 73 and a parent's right to know, Ben will lend his intelligence, wit, and vast experience to this important campaign," says Matson Breakey, campaign coordinator.

A new survey reveals California voters are breaking strongly in favor of Proposition 73, a November ballot proposal that would require abortion centers to tell parents of a minor teen that their daughter is considering an abortion. Previous polls showed voters split on how they would vote. Conducted by Survey USA, the poll found that 60 percent of CA voters back Proposition 73 while just 38 percent oppose it. CALIFORNIA VOTERS STRONGLY FAVORING PARENTAL NOTIFICATION FOR ABORTION
Sacramento, CA --

PARENTAL NOTIFICATION BEFORE ABORTION: WHOSE RIGHTS SHOULD PREVAIL?
San Francisco, CA--Opponents of Prop. 73 label their efforts as a campaign for teen safety. If safety is the goal, then eliminate the secrecy and support Prop. 73. How can a secret as big as this, kept from mom and dad, be considered safe, especially when Californians are so concerned about sexual predators living in our communities? Prop. 73 will enable parents to protect their young daughters from sexual exploitation by adult men. Even if the exploiter is a stepfather or an uncle, instances of abuse and incest should not be protected by a shroud of secrecy. That doesn't sound like teen safety -- that sounds like a crime! WITHOUT PARENTAL NOTIFICATION, ABORTION HARMS GIRLS AND PARENTS

Parental notification laws do not take away a woman's right to an abortion; they simply protect our daughters from the harms of surgery. But more importantly, it allows parents to put their arms around their daughters and say, "I love you, and we'll get through this together." Parents are being excluded from this life-and-death decision, finding out after the fact that an abortion has been performed. Parents are being called to emergency rooms to sign consent forms to repair the damage performed in legal abortion clinics. Source: LifeNews.com, October 20, 2005

WOMAN WHO REGRETS ABORTION: CALIFORNIA NEEDS PARENTAL NOTIFICATION
Dawn Jackson had an abortion when she was a teenager. The San Antonio, Texas resident still has painful memories of that time in her life. Now she is speaking out in support of parental consent, and in particular California's Proposition 73, which "would require abortion businesses to notify a parent or guardian 48 hours prior to performing an abortion on a minor girl" in that state. MEXICAN-AMERICAN POLITICAL ASSOC. WRONGLY LISTED AS PROP. 73 OPPONENT
Los Angeles, CA-- The Mexican American Political Association reaffirmed its support of Proposition 73 Wednesday and demanded that the No on Proposition 73 campaign stop misleading Californians by listing MAPA as an opponent of the initiative. “Let me be clear, the Mexican American Political Association supports Proposition 73,” said Nativo Vigil Lopez, president of the national organization.  “Those trying to defeat Prop 73 are distorting the truth." PROPOSITION 73 DIVIDES VOTERS OVER ABORTION
Sacramento, CA --
Just three years ago, Gov. Gray Davis referred to California as "arguably the most pro-choice" state in the nation. In the Nov. 8 special election, abortion opponents have their best chance in three decades of changing that designation. Proposition 73 has sparked a highly charged battle that has evenly divided voters. Proponents say the measure restores a role for parents in a critical decision. PARENTS NEEDED IN ALL MEDICAL DECISIONS
A young girl is pregnant and frightened. It is at a time like this when she needs you, her parent, the most. But right now your daughter can have a major medical procedure without your even knowing about it. Why? Sacramento legislators determined that it is not necessary for parents to be involved in a particular medical procedure ---- abortion. This is the crux of Proposition 73, an initiative on the November ballot requiring that a parent be notified 48 hours before a physician can perform an abortion on a minor girl. PLANNED PARENTHOOD CARES MORE ABOUT ABORTION THAN TEEN GIRLS
Cincinnati, OH--
Public schools require permits, doctor's permission and written consent from parents to give a Tylenol to a student. It's much easier for an eighth-grader to get an abortion. All it took last year for a 14-year-old "Jane Roe" was a cell phone number. A staffer at a local Planned Parenthood clinic called the number and got permission - from a 21-year-old man who was molesting the girl and coerced her into an abortion. CALIFORNIA GOV. SCHWARZENEGGER SUPPORTS ABORTION NOTIFICATION PROPOSAL
Sacramento, CA -- At first, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he supported the principle of Proposition 73 that would require notifying parents of a minor teen about her potential abortion. Now, he has endorsed the measure voters. Schwarzenegger announced his official position on all of the ballot issues and indicated he backs Proposition 73, which requires abortion facilities to notify the parents of a teen when she's considering an abortion. THE CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS SUPPORTS PROP 73

OHIO RIGHT TO KNOW LAW WILL CLOSE DOWN CINCINNATI ABORTION BUSINESS
Cincinnati, OH -- A new state abortion law requiring abortion practitioners to give women information in person about abortion's risks and alternatives prior to an abortion will close down an abortion business in Cincinnati. The director of the center says she doesn't have enough staff to devote to providing the women the information. Other abortion facilities say they will adjust to the new law, which also requires parental consent before an abortion can be performed on a minor teenager. Source: LifeNews.com, September 21, 2005

ANTI-ABORTION GROUPS FIGHT FOR PROP. 73
Abortion opponents in California have tried for over two decades to make it harder for girls to terminate pregnancies without their parents' knowledge. In the special election called by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, they may finally get their chance. Adults would not have to consent to the procedure, but sponsors hope the notification requirement would reduce California's teen abortion rate -- the nation's fourth-highest -- by getting parents in on the decision. OHIO PARENTAL CONSENT RULING ALREADY STOPPING ABORTIONS, LAW DELAYED
Columbus, OH  --
A federal court ruling upholding an Ohio law requiring abortion businesses to obtain consent of a parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl has already stopped some abortions. Women who arrived at abortion centers across the state are finding their scheduled abortions canceled or postponed in favor of meetings with staff to explain to them the ramifications of the new law. Editorial: DON'T GIVE SEXUAL PREDATORS A FREE PASS
Two-thirds of pregnant, California, school-age children were victims of sexual predators over twenty-two years old. Citing their desire to protect privacy, abortionists withhold information about sexual abuse of pregnant children from parents and authorities. Secret abortions deny parents the opportunity to help their children and police don't get the information needed to prosecute the abusers.  Sexual predators in California get a free pass if their victims are aborted. Editorial: PROP. 73 SUPPORTS PARENTS' RIGHT TO KNOW
Proposition 73, called the Parents' Right to Know Act by its sponsors, is a constitutional amendment that would prevent minors from having an abortion until 48 hours after a doctor has informed their parents or legal guardians in writing. Parents who had been told of the procedure could waive the notification delay, which the initiative terms a "reflection period." Source: The Tidings, September 9, 2005

PRO-LIFE CATHOLIC GROUP WILL HELP CALIFORNIA ABORTION NOTIFICATION VOTE

Sacramento, CA --
A leading pro-life Catholic group says it plans to conduct an extensive statewide campaign in California on behalf of Proposition 73, the measure that would allow parents to know when their minor daughters are considering an abortion. California voters will head to the polls in November to vote. Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, says his group will actively support the measure saying it's important for the lives of young girls as well as family relations. CALIFORNIA POLL SHOWS SPLIT ON PARENTAL NOTIFICATION FOR ABORTION
Sacramento, CA
-- A new poll shows California residents split on a November ballot initiative that would require abortion practitioners to notify the parents of a minor girl considering an abortion before the abortion could be performed. Previous polls showed a small majority favored the proposal. The new survey, conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California finds 44 percent of state residents backing Proposition 73 and 48 percent opposing it -- which is just outside the two percent margin of error. Some 8 percent were not sure how they would vote. Source: LifeNews, August 25, 2005

DETAILS OF TEEN'S FORCED ABORTION IN PORTLAND, OREGON COME FORWARD
Portland, OR --
Felicia Bautista was 15 years-old when she found herself pregnant and in a dispute with her boyfriend about whether to have an abortion. He said yes, she said no. Bautista took him to a local abortion business with the hope of changing his mind. Instead, she found herself the victim of a forced abortion. After Bautista and her boyfriend arrived at the Portland-based abortion business, a nurse commented to her that she looked nervous and handed her two pills to take. She left Bautista alone in a locked room. Source: LifeNews.com, August 8, 2005

OPPONENTS OF TEEN ABORTION MEASURE SUE OVER PAMPHLET LANGUAGE
Sacramento, CA --
Opponents and supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment requiring parental notification before doctors can perform abortions on minors have filed lawsuits challenging statements that the other side provided for the state's voter guide. The lawsuits, filed in Sacramento Superior Court by Proposition 73's sponsors and by a pro-abortion rights group called Campaign for Teen Safety, specifically take aim at the rebuttal arguments the opposing group submitted for the upcoming ballot guide. NEW POLL: AMERICANS BACK LIMITS ON ABORTION BY OVERWHELMING MAJORITIES
Washington, DC --
A new poll conducted by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute finds an overwhelming majority of Americans strongly back measures that would place limits on abortion and help women and teenagers. Strong majorities back a 24 hour waiting period, parental notification, and a ban on partial-birth abortions. ...76 percent of Americans believe partial-birth abortions should be illegal except when necessary to save the life of the mother. Only 15 percent support the partial-birth abortion procedure. Source: LifeNews.com, August 1, 2005

Livermore, CA --
A day after the maker of the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug admitted five women had died from using it, including one recent death, the father one of the women who died says he suspects more women are dead because of the pills. The drug has killed a total of four California women. Monty Patterson's 18 year-old daughter Holly died from an infection brought on by the Mifeprex abortion drug in September 2003. Her death came one week after taking the RU 486 abortion pill. Source: LifeNews.com, July 19, 2005
